Rounding 3rd and Heading Home!
Although it hasn’t felt like it recently, Spring has arrived and so has the 4th and final Marking Period of the school year. And with that, te DHS Spring Calendar is quickly filling up with important events and activities.
If you missed it, Report Cards for the 3rd Marking Period were posted to Sapphire Community Portal. Please take time to log in and view your student’s progress. After doing so, be sure to contact your student’s teachers with any questions or concerns.
Prom is upon us as well. On Friday, we will hold a special assembly for all DHS students who plan to attend the Prom. Our guests from Fellerman & Ciarimboli Law will talk to students about
making good decisions on Prom Night.
Student testing will begin to take center stage for many students in April and May. Our Spanish students will be taking the National Spanish Exams in mid-April while some of our Ag students will participate in the NOCTI exams during that time frame. The AP Testing Window will take place from May 6 - 16. The Keystone Exams in Algebra, Literature, and Biology are scheduled for May 13 - 24.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns regarding your student’s progress. Thank you!

Veterinary Science class visits SPCA
Mr. Varholak & Alivia Hosterman
Every Wednesday the Honors Animal Veterinary Science class visits the local SPCA. Sophomore Nicholas Willoughby fills kongs for the shelter dogs to keep them occupied. Students also interacted with Remy (dog) and Murphy (cat) petting and playing with them. Ag Teacher Van Wagner said going to the SPCA “helps students gain hands-on animal care experiences they can take with them into college and the workforce.”

fire club hosts event

After crawling through the smoke maze erected in the boy’s locker room of the field house, junior Natalyn English takes off the turnout gear provided by local fire stations: East End, Continental, Washies, Friendship, Southside, and Valley. English said, “I enjoyed getting to see what it’s like in the event of being in a smokey building.” Social studies teacher and fire club advisor Devon Francke organized the event with help from Lt. Eric Frantz of East End. Junior Chase Miller said the activity was “good practice because everyone is susceptible to unpredictable events. Better to be safe than sorry.”

On Saturday, March 23 sophomore Jacob Marks attempts to shoot on E-learning teacher Brent Sample during the SPM students versus faculty game. This game helped raise money and spread awareness for mental health initiatives in the community. "I wanted to play in the game because it sounded fun and it was for a good cause. I brought an extra person to the team and 5 more points to help" Marks said. For the second year in a row, the students won by three points.
